Who we are
Tipsy Brisket is a Central Texas competition BBQ team based in Dripping Springs, Texas. This site, tipsybrisket.com, is where we share recipes, product reviews, cookoff results and the calendar of where we're cooking next. When this policy says "we" or "us", that's who we mean. Questions about anything here go to social@tipsybrisket.com.
What we collect
When you send us a message
The contact form asks for your name, email address and whatever you write. It lands in our inbox and is stored on the site so we can answer you. We use it to reply and for nothing else.
When you leave a comment or rate a recipe
Comments store the name, email address and website you enter, along with your IP address and browser details to help catch spam. Your email address is never shown publicly. If you have a Gravatar account, a scrambled version of your email (a hash) is sent to Gravatar to show your profile picture; see Automattic's privacy policy. Recipe star ratings are saved with the same details so one person can't stuff the ballot box.
When you click a product link
Links to gear, sauces and rubs go through short links on our site (they start with /recommends/). We count those clicks, including the time, the page you came from and your IP address, so we know which recommendations are actually useful. That data stays on our site.
Visit statistics and security
We count visits with AnalyticsWP, which runs on this site's own server. It records the pages you view, the site that sent you here, your device and browser type and your IP address, and keeps a random visit ID in your browser's storage. That data stays in our own database; it isn't sent to Google or any other analytics company. Our hosting and security tools also keep standard server logs (IP address, browser and the pages requested) to block attacks and keep the site fast.

Some links on this site are affiliate links. If you buy something after clicking one, we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. Tipsy Brisket is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to Amazon.com. As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases. We also work with other affiliate programs, such as ShareASale, and directly with brands we use. Once you land on their site, their privacy policy applies, and they may use cookies to credit the sale to us.
We only recommend stuff we actually cook with or would hand to a teammate.
Embedded content
Pages may include Instagram posts, YouTube videos and links to Google Maps. Embedded content behaves just as if you visited that site directly: Instagram, YouTube and Google may collect data about you, set cookies and track your interaction with the embed, especially if you're logged in to their service.
Cookies
Cookies are small files your browser keeps for a site. We use them to remember your details if you choose to when leaving a comment, to keep site administrators logged in, and for the embeds described above; the visit statistics use your browser's storage instead. You can block or delete cookies and site storage in your browser settings; the site still works without them, though a few features (like remembering your comment details) won't.
Who we share it with
We don't sell, rent or trade your personal information, period. The only other parties that see any of it are the services named above (Google, Gravatar, Instagram, YouTube and our affiliate partners) and the companies that host and protect this site, and only for the purposes described here. We'll share information if the law requires us to.
How long we keep it
- Comments and their details are kept as long as the comment is on the site.
- Contact form messages are kept until we no longer need them to follow up with you.
- Product link click records and server logs are kept for site statistics and security, and cleared out periodically.
Your choices and rights
You can ask us for a copy of the personal data we hold about you, or ask us to delete it, by emailing social@tipsybrisket.com. We'll take care of it, except for anything we have to keep for legal, security or administrative reasons. Depending on where you live (California, for example, or the EU), you may have additional rights, and we'll honor them.
Kids
This site is meant for adults. Plenty of our recipes involve alcohol, and we don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 13. If you think a child has sent us personal information, let us know and we'll delete it.
Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle your information, we'll update this page and the date at the top.
